Failure to restart modules on OSX 10.10.3 (Yosemite)

Reported by: scott Owned by: somebody
Priority: major Milestone: OSX Intel
Component: startstop Version: 7.8

Description

Request that a module be restarted; status messages and status itself consistent with it working. But, in fact, the process reported by status is a defunct copy of startstop which hung when it tried to redirect stdin.

I am seeing this weirdness on the prior version of MAC OS X too, 10.9.5......

Okay, I just tested this using the new EW 7.8 from SVN on my very very old MAC OS X 10.7.5 and there is NO problem what so ever.....

So somewhere in MAC OS X upgrade from 10.7 to higher versions (I don't have 10.8 to confirm against) something broke in the fork/exec (reopen() is the call Scott says is at fault after tracing it) implementation for UNIX in Earthworm startstop only on this OS...
